Patty Maysent has been appointed interim CEO of UC San Diego Health, the region's only academic health system.
Here are five things to know about Ms. Maysent.
1. As interim CEO, Ms. Maysent plans to continue to focus on implementing UC San Diego Health's strategic plan. "UC San Diego Health has achieved many critical goals in research, education and patient care, but in this era of accelerated changes in healthcare delivery across the country, there is still a lot of work to do to position UC San Diego Health for decades to come," she said in a news release.
2. She joined UC San Diego Health in 2012 as chief of staff to CEO Paul Viviano and in 2013 became chief strategy officer.
3. Under her leadership, UC San Diego Health collaborated with San Diego-based Scripps Health to provide proton therapy services as a cancer treatment option and also to co-sponsor a hospice fellowship training program. She also led the development of a joint venture with home health services company, AccentCare, to provide patients comprehensive care after discharge.
In addition, she recently facilitated a strategic partnership between UC San Diego Health and El Centro (Calif.) Regional Medical Center, and developed the UC San Diego Health Care Network, a collective of regional healthcare providers, including UC San Diego Health and faculty physicians, community hospitals, medical groups and physicians based in San Diego, Riverside and Imperial counties. Her extensive experience in community partnerships resulted in UC San Diego Health partnering with high profile organizations, such as the San Diego Chargers and United States Olympic Committee.
4. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Ms. Maysent served in several executive roles, such as CEO of St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, Calif. During this time, she built the St. Jude Heritage Health Foundation, a first of its kind physician-hospital integrated delivery system. She also served as a consultant for University of Southern California's Keck Medical Center and Alliance Healthcare Services.
5. Ms. Maysent replaces Mr. Viviano, who is joining the administration of Children's Hospital Los Angeles. A national search for a permanent CEO at UC San Diego Health is underway.
