Roxane Townsend, MD, has been named CEO of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center in Little Rock, effective Feb. 1, 2013.
Dr. Townsend was also named as vice chancellor for clinical programs of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Previously, Dr. Townsend served as assistant vice president for health systems at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
Dr. Townsend is replacing Richard Pierson, who will retire at the end of the year. Melissa Fontaine, UAMS Medical Center COO and associate vice chancellor for clinical programs, will serve as interim CEO until Dr. Townsend takes over in February.
