Salt Lake City-based University of Utah Health Care selected Michael Good, MD, to serve as CEO of the health system, effective this fall, according to the Desert News.
Here are three things to know:
1. In addition to his role as CEO, Dr. Good will serve as senior vice president for health sciences and dean of the University of Utah School of Medicine.
2. Dr. Good previously served as dean of the Gainesville-based University of Florida College of Medicine since 2008. He earned his bachelor's degrees in computer and communication sciences, and his medical doctorate degree from the Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan, the report states.
"My predecessors built a strong foundation for future success and I look forward to working with leaders across campus to further the mission of one of the country's top public universities," Dr. Good said. "It is clear to me that Utah has a distinctively collaborative culture and the talented faculty, staff and students here are uniquely positioned to continue transforming healthcare and academic medicine," Dr. Good said in a prepared statement, according to the Desert News.
3. Dr. Good's appointment comes after a nearly yearlong search to fill the positions. Vivian Lee, MD, PhD, former senior vice president for health sciences, medical school dean and CEO of University of Utah Health Care, resigned in May 2017. Her resignation came one month after the tumultuous firing of Huntsman Cancer Institute Director and CEO Mary Beckerle, PhD, whom university trustees voted to reinstate one week after she was fired.
