Anthony "Tony" Spezia, president and CEO of Knoxville, Tenn.-based Covenant Health, will step out of his role March 31 to take on a new role as CEO emeritus, according to a Knoxville News Sentinel report.
Here are five things to know about Mr. Spezia.
1. Mr. Spezia has been at the helm of Covenant since 2000.
2. During his tenure, Mr. Spezia was involved in a number of renovation and expansion projects, including a $94 million renovation and expansion of Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville and a $150 million upgrade of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, according to the report.
3. Prior to his role as CEO, Mr. Spezia was executive vice president at Covenant, and before that, senior vice president of managed care.
4. In his newest role as CEO emeritus, Mr. Spezia told the Knoxville News Sentinel he'll focus on working on public policy, strategy and expansion for Covenant, as well as special projects, without having to "manage people or do budgets."
5. Jim VanderSteeg, the current executive vice president of operations, will take over for Mr. Spezia as president and CEO of Covenant, effective April 1.
