Cook County Health System Makes Dr. John Shannon Permanent CEO

The Chicago-based Cook County Health and Hospitals System board of directors unanimously appointed John Jay Shannon, MD, as permanent CEO effective June 29.

Dr. Shannon has been serving as the interim CEO for the past three months. He joined the CCHHS medical staff in 1990. His previous roles include director of the Adult Asthma Clinic, associate chair of the Department of Medicine and chief of the Divisions of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Shannon was also the executive vice president and CMO at the Dallas-based Parkland Health and Hospital System from 2007 to 2012. In 2013, he rejoined CCHHS as the chief of clinical integration.
