Texas hospital taps heart leader as chief medical officer

St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in Texas has appointed Jeffrey Nitzsche, MD, chief medical officer, effective Sept. 29.

Dr. Nitzsche has 15 years of leadership experience at the hospital, previously serving as chief of cardiac anesthesiology, vice chief of anesthesia and chief of staff, according to an Oct. 24 news release.

As a cardiac anesthesiologist, Dr. Nitzsche has played a key role in the development and improvement of numerous clinical initiatives at the hospital related to structural heart conditions, cardiac electrophysiology and open-heart surgery.

St. David's South Austin Medical Center, a 364-bed hospital, is part of Austin-based St. David’s HealthCare.
