Texas Health Resources names Barclay Berdan CEO

The board of Texas Health Resources in Arlington has named Barclay Berdan as the system's next CEO, effective Sept. 1.

Mr. Berdan will replace longtime CEO Doug Hawthorne. In January, Mr. Hawthorne announced his plans to step down from his role at the 24-hospital system.

Mr. Berdan has worked in healthcare since 1977. He previously held administrative positions with Harris Methodist Health System, which merged with Presbyterian Healthcare System in 1997 to form THR. Mr. Berdan was named senior executive vice president of the health system in 2005, senior EVP of system alignment and performance in 2007 and senior EVP and COO in 2012.

THR Board Chair Anne Bass said the board recognized Mr. Berdan's unique combination of attributes. "He is a forward-thinking visionary with a personally-engaging leadership style," she said in the release. "He brings a well-rounded perspective and unique leadership strengths to the CEO position. At the same time, he represents stability and continuity that will be critical to advancing our strategy as we confront the challenges of a rapidly changing health care environment. He is a true servant-leader who fosters a spirit of collaboration and sets high expectations of performance for every person in the organization."
