Temple University Health System appoints new chief medical officer

Carl Sirio, MD, was named chief medical officer at Temple University Health System in Philadelphia. His role is effective Jan. 23. 

Previously, Dr. Sirio held multiple leadership positions at the University of Toledo (Ohio), including chief operating and clinical officer, senior associate dean for clinical affairs, vice president of medical affairs, chief medical officer and chief medical information officer.

He also co-founded the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative, for which he was the recipient of several grants from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to create meaningful patient care improvement according to a Dec. 12 news release shared with Becker's

Dr. Sirio received his undergraduate and medical degrees from New York City-based Columbia University and Newark-based Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and completed his postgraduate medical training at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa., the National Institutes of Health and George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
