Swedish Covenant Hospital CEO to transition to new role: 4 things to know

Mark Newton, president and CEO of Chicago-based Swedish Covenant Hospital, is leaving his post to take on a new role.

Here are four things to know about Mr. Newton.

1. He will remain CEO until June 30, 2016, and then become vice chairman of the Swedish Covenant Hospital Foundation.

2. Mr. Newton will leave his position after more than 15 years leading Swedish Covenant Hospital.

3. During Mr. Newton's tenure, the hospital has achieved several important milestones, officials said. They include:

• Providing almost 4 million outpatient treatments and 250,000 admissions
• The Swedish Covenant Hospital Board has committed more than $300 million in capital to support the community.
• Net assets have increased by almost $250 million
• The hospital has received eight consecutive "A" hospital safety grades from the Leapfrog Group. It has also sustained Magnet recognition for nursing excellence since 2010.

4. Anthony Guaccio, the hospital's current COO, will take over for Mr. Newton, effective July 1, 2016.
