Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health and Aetna named Steve Wigginton CEO of their Sutter Health | Aetna joint venture health plan, effective immediately.
Here are three things to know about the appointment.
1. Mr. Wigginton will oversee the health plan for employees in Northern California. The health plan launches April 1, with a network comprising 1,500-plus primary care physicians, 7,800 specialists and 30 hospitals.
2. His first tasks will include establishing the health plan's executive team, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met, finalizing policies, refining sales strategies and creating a multiyear plan.
3. Prior to taking the helm at Sutter Health | Aetna, Mr. Wigginton served as CEO of Valence Health, which was acquired by hospital consulting firm Evolent Health in mid-2016. Before the transaction, Mr. Wigginton was Evolent's chief development officer.
