The medical staff at St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, N.Y., has asked CEO Richard Brown to resign, according to a Crain's New York Business report.
In a letter to the chairman of the board of trustees of the Episcopal Health System, Bishop Lawrence Provenzano, the staff claim Mr. Brown has not acted in the best financial interest of the hospital and does not support the hospital's mission, citing actions such as outsourcing cardiology services, selling the hospital's nursing homes and closing outpatient primary care and detoxification unit services, according to the report.
Mr. Brown, who has served as CEO since July 2013, disputes the claims, partially attributing the financial issues to Hurricane Sandy. He said he and the hospital board will shortly issue a formal letter addressing the "misinformation contained in the letter" that calls for his resignation, according to the report.
