Belleville, Ill.-based St. Elizabeth's Hospital, an affiliate of Hospital Sisters Health System, has appointed CNO Shelley Harris, DNP, interim CEO, according to a Belleville News-Democrat report.
Here are four things to know about Dr. Harris.
1. Dr. Harris begins her position Friday. She will take over for current president and CEO Maryann Reese, who is leaving at the end of the month for a new job in Missouri.
2. As interim CEO, Dr. Harris will be responsible for daily operations and leadership of the hospital. She will serve in this role while HSHS and St. Elizabeth's board of directors' Search Advisory Committee conducts a search for a permanent CEO, which is anticipated to take three to six months, according to St. Elizabeth's. James Dover, HSHS division president and CEO, will assume responsibility over building the new replacement hospital to be constructed in O'Fallon, Ill.
3. During her time at St. Elizabeth's, Dr. Harris, who has more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience, has successfully led the redesign of patient care services, improved staffing initiatives and colleague engagement and was instrumental in facilitating a partnership between HSHS and Southern Illinois University School of Nursing in Edwardsville, according to the hospital.
4. Now, Dr. Harris is excited to begin her new position. "I have been blessed to be part of the HSHS ministry for many years in a multitude of roles and am humbled by their continued support. I am incredibly excited at this opportunity to serve St. Elizabeth's and the communities it represents," she said in a statement, according to the report. "I look forward to working alongside our colleagues to provide exceptional care to area residents."
