St. Clare's CEO leaving for new job: 3 things to know

As the sale of Denville, N.J.-based Saint Clare's Health System comes to a close, the system’s president and CEO, Leslie D. Hirsch, is leaving his post July 31 to begin a new position as president of Saint Peter's Healthcare System in New Brunswick, N.J., according to a New Jersey Herald report.

Here are three things to know about Mr. Hirsch.

1. Mr. Hirsch's move follows the approval last month from the New Jersey Superior Court of Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services' Community Health Care Protection Act application, allowing the for-profit hospital operator to acquire Saint Clare's. The deal, which is valued at about $62 million, will transfer ownership of St. Clare's from Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives to Prime. The transaction is expected to close July 31.

2. Mr. Hirsch, who has served as CEO of St. Clare's for the past seven years, has shepherded the sale of the system, according to the report. A previous agreement in 2012 in which Saint Clare's would have sold to St. Louis-based Ascension Health Care Network, another for-profit entity, fell apart. Prior to the agreement with Prime, Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health System was in talks to acquire Saint Clare's.

3. Reflecting on his tenure, Mr. Hirsch wrote to employees and associates of Saint Clare's that he was "very proud of all that we have accomplished together under challenging circumstances and I know it hasn't always been easy," according to the report. "These past few years have been a long journey for all of us, but through it all we never wavered in our commitment to Saint Clare's mission, our patients and the communities we serve," he added.
