Tim Schmidt, interim CEO of Fort Smith, Ark.-based Sparks Health System, has been dismissed from his post after making a racially insensitive comment at an employee meeting, according to a report by The City Wire.
During the employee meeting, Mr. Schmidt was allegedly asked why he wanted to move to Fort Smith from Laredo, Texas. Mr. Schmidt allegedly responded, "Have you ever been to Laredo, Texas? It's 97 percent Hispanic," according to the report.
Officials of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, the parent of Sparks Health System, said Schmidt would no longer be employed at Sparks, but it is unclear if he will remain employed by Community Health, according to the report.
