Southern New Hampshire Health CEO to retire: 5 things to know

Thomas E. Wilhelmsen Jr., president and CEO of Nashua-based Southern New Hampshire Health, will retire June 30 after 28 years of service.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Wilhelmsen.

1. He joined then-Nashua Memorial Hospital as CEO in 1988.

2. During his tenure, Nashua Memorial Hospital, a community hospital with only a handful of individual physician partners, was transformed into a fully integrated healthcare delivery system, known today as Southern New Hampshire Health. He also established Southern New Hampshire Health's clinical affiliation with Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

3. Mr. Wilhelmsen attributes his success to a "talented and unflinchingly dedicated leadership team" that has shared his vision and commitment to advancing the organization's mission of service to meet the community's healthcare needs, officials said.

4. Michael S. Rose, senior vice president and CFO of Southern New Hampshire Health, will succeed Mr. Wilhelmsen, effective July 1.

5. As CEO, Mr. Rose plans to advance Mr. Wilhelmsen's legacy, according to a news release. Specifically, he plans to pursue strategies that allow the organization to adapt to industry changes. He will also assure Southern New Hampshire Health's ongoing participation as a founding member of Granite Health, a partnership of five independent health systems in New Hampshire.
