Brunswick-based Southeast Georgia Health System has appointed Michael D. Scherneck as its new permanent president and CEO.
Here are five things to know about Mr. Scherneck.
1. Mr. Scherneck joined Southeast Georgia Health System as executive vice president and CFO in 2003.
2. Prior to joining the health system, his extensive background in healthcare included positions as the CFO and senior vice president of the Wyoming Valley Health Care System in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., CFO and senior vice president of Susquehanna Health System in Williamsport, Pa., and CFO and vice president of the Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center.
3. In addition to his role within SGHS, Scherneck also serves as president of Cooperative Healthcare Services, Southeast Georgia Health System's entity that operates a number of the employed physician practices throughout its service area.
4. Following his acceptance of the new permanent position, Mr. Scherneck stated, "I am honored and feel extraordinarily privileged to serve as president and CEO of Southeast Georgia Health System. I am committed to continuing the health system's practice of providing quality health care to the communities we serve, and I look forward to working with our healthcare partners and the health system's leadership team as I transition into this new role."
5. Mr. Scherneck also currently holds the title of CFO and will continue in this role until a later date when a search will be implemented for a new CFO.
