Dennis Kelly, CEO of Bayonne, N.J.-based CarePoint Health, is leaving his post, according to a report from NJ Advance Media.
Here are four things to know about Mr. Kelly and his departure.
1. Mr. Kelly announced his resignation Oct. 6 and will stay until the end of the month. He will be replaced by CarePoint co-founder Jeff Mandler. COO Peter Daniels will manage hospital operations.
2. In a videotaped message to company employees, Mr. Kelly, a grandfather of 10, said he was moving back to Charlotte, N.C., to be near his family, according to the report. He will sit on the board of directors for CarePoint's foundation.
3. Mr. Kelly leaves three years after CarePoint was formed. The organization oversees Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., Hoboken (N.J.) Medical Center and Bayonne (N.J.) Medical Center — all of which were in dire financial shape before their acquisition and conversion to for-profit facilities.
4. He also leaves at an uncertain time for the company, which has been criticized for declining to join some managed care networks and charging among the highest prices in the U.S. for out-of-network care, according to the report. State lawmakers have been working on legislation due later this fall that will attempt to rein in out-of-network charges.
