Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge, Va., appointed Katherine A. Johnson, PhD, president, effective Dec. 5, 2016.

1. Dr. Johnson currently serves as vice president and COO.
2. She previously spent eight years as president of Novant Health Thomasville (N.C.) Medical Center.
3. She has also served as CNO and vice president for patient care services at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., and vice president of patient
care services for Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C.
4. She holds a master's in business administration from the University of South Carolina in Columbia and a doctor of philosophy degree in healthcare administration from Kennedy-Western University in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
5. Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is a nonprofit community hospital that includes 183 beds.
