Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center names 1st physician president: 7 things to know

John Rodis, MD, has been named president of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Conn., effective Jan. 1.

Here are seven things to know about Dr. Rodis.

1. He will be the eighth leader of the hospital — and the first physician — since its founding in 1897.

2. He succeeds Christopher Dadlez, who was president and CEO of Hartford-based Saint Francis Care for the past 11 years and is now president and CEO of Hartford-based Trinity Health-New England, the parent company of Saint Francis, Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital in Hartford, Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs, Conn., Sisters of Providence Health System in Springfield, Mass., and other subsidiaries.

3. At Saint Francis, Dr. Rodis has most recently served as executive vice president and COO.

4. Prior to joining Saint Francis in 2011 as chairman of obstetrics and gynecology, he previously was chairman of obstetrics and gynecology at Stamford (Conn.) Hospital and then CMO.

5. He holds the academic rank of professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, as well as the Frank H. Netter, MD, School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, which has campuses throughout Connecticut.

6. He is an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, testing physicians to determine whether they will become board-certified.

7. Dr. Rodis earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Ithaca, N.Y.-based Cornell University and received his medical degree from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico. He completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, N.J., and his fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Farmington-based UConn Health. He went on to complete another fellowship in clinical genetics at UConn Health. This year, Dr. Rodis earned his Master of Business Administration from Troy, N.Y.-based Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
