Ron Violi retires as Wheeling Hospital CEO

Ron Violi retired May 24 as CEO of Wheeling (W. Va.) Hospital after leading the hospital for 13 years.

As CEO, Mr. Violi led the hospital into profitability after a loss of nearly $54 million in the seven years before his tenure, and helped it achieve accreditations and certifications for its services, including cancer care.

Mr. Violi was a "self-made retail entrepreneur and healthcare industry leader" before joining Wheeling Hospital, said Kevin M. Quirk, board president.

Kareen Simon, the hospital's vice president of operations, will take over as interim CEO. She has worked at the hospital since 2012, initially serving as a senior administrator.
