Amit Powar, MD, has been appointed the first CEO of Reading (Pa.) Health Physician Network.
Here are six things to know about Dr. Powar.
1. As CEO, Dr. Powar will provide oversight and guidance of all operations for RHPN.
2. He has more than a decade of expertise in ambulatory and physician practice operations.
3. He most recently was vice president of the affiliated network and regional operation for Great Neck, N.Y.-based North Shore-LIJ Health System. In that role, he was responsible for the planning, growth and development of the medical group, ambulatory enterprise and hospital operations within a region for the health system.
4. Previously, Dr. Powar was in numerous positions with North Shore-LIJ, including administrative fellow, assistant vice president of ambulatory services and vice president of the Office of Community and Public Health. He also was senior director of physician and ambulatory network services, and assistant executive director of ancillary & support services.
5. Dr. Powar earned a master's degree in health services administration from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from K J Somaiya Medical College and Research Center in Mumbai, India.
6. He is also on the executive committee of the American Association of Physicians of Indian origin.
