Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica named Kate Sommerfeld president of social determinants of health.
Ms. Sommerfeld most recently served as ProMedica's corporate director of advocacy and community impact. In her new role, she will lead the development of a 10-year, $50 million community revitalization initiative, which will include housing, job creation and education. The health system aims to improve population health in its community, and the program is intended to serve as a national model for neighborhood revitalization.
Ms. Sommerfeld will also help establish a research center in partnership with The University of Toledo, which will focus on the impact of social determinants of health.
Ms. Sommerfeld has worked at ProMedica for two years. She holds a master of public administration degree from Bowling Green (Ohio) State University.
