Dale Maxwell plans to retire this year as CEO of Albuquerque, N.M.-based Presbyterian Healthcare Services.
Mr. Maxwell announced his retirement March 12, effective July 31.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to work alongside the dedicated staff at this incredible organization. Through their commitment to excellence, compassion for our patients and members, and respect for each other, we have accomplished extraordinary things," he said in a news release shared with Becker's.
"I will forever remain personally devoted to Presbyterian and the people who make it great."
Mr. Maxwell has helmed Presbyterian, New Mexico's largest health system, since late 2016.
During his tenure, Presbyterian built a new nine-story hospital tower at Presbyterian Hospital, expanded care access in rural communities, and continued serving as a managed care organization for Centennial Care, New Mexico's Medicaid program, according to the release.
Presbyterian said Mr. Maxwell also recently helped with efforts to bring forward the Healthcare Delivery and Access Act in New Mexico, which establishes a Medicaid Directed Payment Program to support access to care in rural areas of the state.
Before becoming CEO, Mr. Maxwell held various other positions at Presbyterian, including executive vice president and chief administrative officer.
Mr. Maxwell's successor has not been named.
