OSU Wexner names CEO after 15-month search

John J. Warner, MD, is the new CEO of Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, effective April 1.

The Ohio State University announced the CEO appointment Jan. 13. Dr. Warner, a cardiologist, will arrive at the $4.6 billion Columbus, Ohio-based academic medical center from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he currently serves as CEO of the health system and executive vice president for health system affairs.

OSU Wexner started a CEO search in 2021, when Harold Paz, MD, stepped down from his post to take on an executive vice president position with Stony Brook (N.Y.) University.

"We are excited to welcome Dr. Warner to Ohio State," Hiroyuki Fujita, PhD, chair of OSU's board, said in the news release. "The breadth of his knowledge and experience will be critical to serve the Wexner Medical Center's mission of exceptional patient care, innovative research and educational excellence, and to create world-class health care solutions to improve people's lives."

Dr. Warner earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and completed his residency training at UT Southwestern and fellowship training in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. He earned his master of business administration degree from the physician executive MBA program at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
