OHSU president steps down

Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University President Danny Jacobs, MD, has decided to step down from his position "after careful consideration and for personal reasons," according to an Oct. 24 news release.

"I have shared my recommendations on succession planning with him and fully intend to stay engaged in an advisory role during the transition," Dr. Jacobs said in the release.

The news comes after OHSU's executive vice president and CEO, John Hunter, MD, shared he would step down in January amid plans of a merger between OHSU and Portland-based Legacy Health to create a 12-hospital, 32,000-employee system.

OHSU Board Chair Chad Paulson shared that the board of directors will meet Oct. 25 to appoint Nate Selden, MD, PhD, OHSU School of Medicine dean and Mario and Edith Campagna Chair of Pediatric Neurological Surgery, the next president of OHSU, effective immediately for a three-year term, the release said.
