Portland-based Oregon Health & Science University selected Danny Jacobs, MD, to serve as president, effective Aug. 1.
Here are six notes:
1. Dr. Jacobs is executive vice president, provost and dean of the school of medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
2. He is also a professor at UTMB's Institute for Translational Sciences as well as in the preventive medicine and community health and surgery departments at the university.
3. A specialist in surgical nutrition and metabolism, he also held faculty positions at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
4. Dr. Jacobs has won numerous awards over the course of his career, including the National Medical Association Presidential Award.
5. He is a fellow of the American Surgical Association and American College of Surgeons.
6. Dr. Jacobs succeeds Joe Robertson, MD, who retired in October 2017, but stayed on as president through the search.
