OhioHealth CEO to retire in 2019, ending 17-year tenure: 6 things to know

David Blom, CEO of Columbus-based OhioHealth, plans to retire in fall 2019 after 17 years at the helm, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Here are six things to know:

1. Mr. Blom joined the 11-hospital OhioHealth in 1983, becoming CEO in March 2002.

2. During his tenure, the organization added Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware, Ohio, and built Dublin (Ohio) Methodist Hospital.

3. Additionally, OhioHealth is constructing a new $89.6 million, 270,000-square-foot headquarters in Columbus.

4. Stephen Markovich, MD, senior vice president of acute care operations, will succeed Mr. Blom.

5. Dr. Markovich was promoted to executive VP, and he will assume the top post at the health system July 1, 2019.

6. Dr. Markovich is also a major general and commander in Ohio's Air National Guard. He will retire from those posts in October.
