Ochsner Health System CMO to retire

Joseph E. Bisordi, MD, executive vice president and CMO of New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System, will retire Sept. 1.

Dr. Bisordi has served as executive vice president and CMO of Ochsner Health System since 2008.

With Dr. Bisordi as CMO, Ochsner Health System has developed various programs including the transcatheter aortic valve replacement, total artificial heart and in-utero fetal neurosurgery — all first-time procedures performed at the system, according to a news release. He has instituted service lines in pain management, cardiology, primary care, women's health, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, hospital medicine, radiology, neurosciences, pediatric specialties and pathology, officials said.

His accomplishments include developing a quality improvement and patient safety initiative at Ochsner Health System, which has resulted in national recognition and numerous quality awards.

Prior to joining Ochsner Health System, Dr. Bisordi, a board-certified nephrologist, was associate CMO of Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System and CMO of Geisinger Medical Center, also in Danville.

Dr. Bisordi will be succeeded by Robert I. Hart, MD, regional medical director of Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.
