Kendall Sawa, RN, CEO of Ilwaco, Wash.-based Ocean Beach Hospital, is leaving his post to take a new job as CEO of Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, Ore., according to a Chinook Observer report.
Here are four things to know about Mr. Sawa and his departure.
1. He begins his new job in January.
2. Mr. Sawa, an employee of Vancouver, Wash.-based PeaceHealth, has worked at OBH for about three years, under a "management agreement" that allowed PeaceHealth to take over day-to-day operation of the financially distressed public hospital, according to the report.
3. Mr. Sawa's contract with OBH is set to expire at the end of 2015, but he told the Chinook Observer that wasn't a factor in his decision to leave. "I wasn't necessarily out there looking for something else. I felt secure in my role [at OBH] beyond the existence of a management contract," he told the publication. "... I knew about the opportunity and when I received encouragement to consider it, it made me want to learn more about it."
4. Prior to OBH, Mr. Sawa was regional vice president for patient care services of PeaceHealth Ketchikan (Alaska) Medical Center. He also served a short stint as interim CEO at Wrangell (Alaska) Medical Center.
