Norton Children's President Dr. Thomas Kmetz retires: 6 takeaways

Thomas Kmetz, president of Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Children's Hospital, retired Jan. 31, according to a Louisville Business First report.

Here are six takeaways:

1. Mr. Kmetz served as president of the children's hospital since 2009.

2. During his tenure, the hospital overcame numerous difficulties, including settling a payment dispute with Kosair Charities.

3. His prior experience includes serving as president of Louisville-based Norton Healthcare's south-central market and president and administrator of Norton Audubon Hospital, also in Louisville.

4. He came to Norton Healthcare from UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill, N.C.

5. Mr. Kmetz holds an MBA degree as well as a master's degree in healthcare administration from Minneapolis-based University of Minnesota.

6. Emmett Ramser will oversee Norton Children's as chief administrative officer, while a permanent president is identified. Mr. Ramser is system vice president of facilities management for Norton Healthcare.
