New president picked for Rush University Medical Group: 4 things to know

Antonio Bianco, MD, PhD, was appointed president of Rush University Medical Group and vice dean of clinical affairs for Rush Medical College.

Both entities are based in Chicago. RUMG comprises more than 500 employed physicians and advanced practice providers that provide care in more than 70 practice sites across the Chicago area.

Here are four things to know about Dr. Bianco.

1. In his new leadership position, Dr. Bianco directs the faculty practice and business and operational affairs of Rush clinical practices, according to a news release. His responsibilities also include overseeing onsite and off-site ambulatory development efforts, and the implementation of programs across Rush's network of affiliated hospitals and providers.

2. As vice dean of clinical affairs for Rush Medical College, Dr. Bianco and other leaders will work "to align and coordinate the activities of RUMG in support of the clinical, teaching and research missions of the college," officials said.

3. Dr. Bianco, an endocrinologist, joined Rush in February 2014 from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, where he was professor of medicine and held multiple leadership positions including chief of the division of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism; vice chairman of the department of medicine; and associate director of the MD/PhD program.  He took over as acting president of RUMG last year.

4. Dr. Bianco earned his medical degree from the Santa Casa School of Medicine in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in human physiology from the University of Sao Paulo.
