New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System appointed Joshua Safer, MD, the inaugural executive director of its Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery.
Here are four points:
1. In addition to serving as executive director, Dr. Safer will serve as a senior faculty member at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
2. Dr. Safer comes to Mount Sinai from Boston Medical Center and Boston University School of Medicine, where he was the founding medical director of the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery.
3. An endocrinologist, he is president of the United States Professional Association for Transgender Health as well as the steering committee co-chair of TransNet, the international transgender research consortium.
4. The Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery is the first-of-its-kind in New York and aims to provide transgender patients with an integrated care delivery system.
