MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena president to retire next year: 5 things to know

MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena President Karmon Bjella is retiring, effective July 1, 2018.

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Bjella became president of the medical center in November 2007.

2. During his tenure, the medical center — previously known as Alpena Regional Medical Center — merged with MidMichigan Health and assumed a new name.

3. Mr. Bjella also helped lead a $7.5 million emergency department renovation.

4. Prior to joining MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena, he served as president and CEO of Unity Healthcare in Muscatine, Iowa, now known as UnityPoint Health – Trinity Muscatine.

5. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
