Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida, which is scheduled to open in 2016, has named three new executives.
Here are eight things to know about the executives.
Jeff Boyd, PhD, was named director of translational research and genomic medicine
1. In his role, Dr. Boyd, will help position Miami Cancer Institute's Center for Genomic Medicine as an international leader for highly personalized genetic analyses tailored to patients' individual needs.
2. Most recently, he was senior vice president for Molecular Medicine, executive director of the Cancer Genome Institute and the Robert C. Young, MD chairman in cancer research at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, where he also maintained a research laboratory.
3. Dr. Boyd previously was attending biologist and director of the Diagnostic Molecular Genetics Laboratory and the Gynecology and Breast Research Laboratory at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Leonard Kalman, MD, was named deputy medical director and chief clinical officer.
4. In his role, Dr. Kalman plays a critical role in supporting the overall mission and vision of Miami Cancer Institute, and in defining its clinical components. He is also involved in the recruitment of faculty and staff.
5. After completing his medical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1982, he became a practicing community medical oncologist and joined the staffs of Baptist Hospital and South Miami Hospital. He eventually was chairman of the board of managers of what became Advanced Medical Specialties, a large diversified oncology practice in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties in Florida.
As of December 2014, the physicians and employees of AMS joined Baptist Health as the founding oncologists of Miami Cancer Institute.
Michele Ryder, RN, was named COO/CNO.
6. In her role, Ms. Ryder will provide leadership and support for Miami Cancer Institute's business and nursing operations, including the infusion suites, multidisciplinary clinics, radiation oncology and ancillary services.
7. She has more than 37 years of experience in both patient care and executive positions.
8. Ms. Ryder is a clinical expert in hospital operations and has been responsible for the growth of the renowned neuroscience and surgical programs at Baptist Hospital of Miami, where she began her career 29 years ago in surgery and the post-anesthesia care unit.
