Cleveland-based MetroHealth System has promoted Melissa Kline, MSN, RN, to vice president of nursing and CNO.
Here are five things to know about Ms. Kline.
1. In her new role, she will be responsible for leading a staff of nearly 2,000 nurses, and she will oversee all aspects of nursing with a special focus on quality and operations of MetroHealth's nursing enterprise, according to a news release.
2. Ms. Kline will take over for Mavis Bechtle, MSN, RN, who has held the CNO role since 2011. Ms. Bechtle was promoted to chief hospital clinical officer in August — a role she took on while retaining her CNO position. She will now focus exclusively on her duties as senior vice president and chief hospital clinical officer, which entail clinical oversight of the inpatient hospital and acute care locations at MetroHealth Medical Center, Old Brooklyn Health Center and the Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Center, all in Cleveland, along with the main campus operating rooms and the system's ambulatory surgery sites.
3. Prior to her new position, Ms. Kline was vice president of nursing and associate CNO.
4. During her tenure at MetroHealth, Ms. Kline played an integral role in the system's preparation for Magnet designation.
5. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Akron (Ohio) and a Master of Science in Nursing from Baltimore-based Walden University, and is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Chamberlain College of Nursing, which operates a number of campuses across the nation.
