Mercy, a 33-hospital system based in Chesterfield, Mo., has let go three of its top finance executives.
According to a statement dated Feb. 24, the three departing leaders are: Randy Combs, executive vice president and CFO; Sheri Beekman, chief revenue cycle officer; and Donna Chandler, vice president for patient receivables.
Shannon Sock, executive vice president of organization effectiveness at Mercy, will now serve as CFO, in addition to holding his prior responsibilities. Mercy's Oklahoma market CFO Jon Vitiello will serve as senior vice president of finance. Kim Day, former regional president of Mercy's central region, will oversee the system's revenue management team in the interim.
Mercy officials did not specify why the changes were made. Mr. Combs had been with the system for more than 25 years and served as CFO since March 2009.
According to a December credit outlook from Moody's Investors Service, Mercy recorded almost $4.4 billion in total operating revenue in fiscal year 2013. Moody's analysts also said the system "has a track record of profitability and stable operating margins."
However, Moody's said Mercy had a few challenges, including management of its defined benefit pension plan, modest liquidity with only 165 days cash on hand and a high reliance on hospitals in its Springfield, Mo., and St. Louis markets. Mercy, the sixth-largest Catholic health system in the U.S., holds an "Aa3" credit rating with Moody's.
