Modesto, Calif.-based Memorial Medical Center has named Bruce Laverty, MD, as its new chief medical executive, according to a Central Valley Business Journal report.
Here are three things to know about Dr. Laverty.
1. As chief medical executive, Dr. Laverty will work with the hospital's physicians and staff "to provide a safe environment for our patients to receive care," lead the hospitals efforts to improve quality outcomes, and directly work with medical directors at MMC "to drive performance of our patient care services," according to officials.
2. He previously had a career in the U.S. Navy. During that career, he was a staff anesthesiologist and commanding officer of the U.S. Naval Hospital in Spain. He ultimately became the commander, force surgeon (CMO) of the Surface Forces of the U.S Pacific Fleet based in San Diego.
3. Prior to his naval career, Dr. Laverty earned a medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
