Thomas DeFauw, president and CEO of McLaren Port Huron in Port Huron, Mich., plans to retire by Oct. 1.
Here are four things to know about Mr. DeFauw and his retirement.
1. Mr. DeFauw joined the hospital as president and CEO in September 2007.
2. Under his tenure, Port Huron (Mich.) Hospital and McLaren Health Care in Flint, Mich., signed a definitive acquisition agreement, making Port Huron Hospital the 12th hospital within the McLaren system in 2014.
3. Mr. DeFauw said his decision to retire was made with mixed emotions. "My wife Sue and I have cherished our time here. In the past eight years, we've made significant strides toward preserving access to high-quality healthcare in the Blue Water community," he said in a prepared statement. "The future is bright. With a highly regarded medical staff, exceptional employees and dedicated volunteers, McLaren Port Huron will continue to be a leader in healing and our community's partner in health for many generations to come."
4. Flint-based McLaren Health Care and the McLaren Port Huron board will soon begin an executive search process to fill Mr. DeFauw's position.
