Providence, R.I.-based Lifespan has named Timothy Babineau, MD, as president and CEO, effective Aug. 15.
He will succeed George Vecchione who announced in October that he would leave Lifespan later this year.
Dr. Babineau is currently president and CEO of Rhode Island Hospital in Providence and The Miriam Hospital in Providence. He became president and CEO of Rhode Island Hospital in October 2008. In 2010, Rhode Island Hospital merged with The Miriam Hospital and since that time, Dr. Babineau has led both hospitals. Prior to his appointment in 2008, he served as senior vice president and CMO of the University of Maryland Medical Center and School of Medicine in Baltimore.
