Portland, Ore.-based Legacy Health President and CEO George J. Brown, MD, is retiring, after serving as leader of the health system for nearly a decade.
Dr. Brown has served at the helm of the health system since 2008, before which he was COO of MultiCare Health System in Tacoma, Wash. He served in the United States Army more than 25 years, rising through the ranks to become Brigadier General. He is a trained gastroenterologist and practiced until 2006.
During his tenure as the leader of Legacy Health, Dr. Brown grew the health system from six to eight hospitals and doubled the number of primary care clinics. He also played a key role in establishing Health Share of Oregon, a statewide coordinated care collaboration.
"Dr. Brown's forward-thinking has improved patient care; expanded our geographic footprint; and deepened our community connections," said Jeff Fullman, MD, the health system's board of directors' chair. "We thank him for his unwavering dedication to the organization, having continued to serve beyond what the board had initially expected to produce record results."
Dr. Brown will serve in his current roles until the end of 2017, once the transition to a new leader is complete.
