Laurel Regional president, COO to resign: 4 things to know

Laurel (Md.) Regional Hospital President and COO John Spearman is resigning, effective April 8, according to a Baltimore Sun report.

Here are four things to know about Mr. Spearman.

1. He will also be leaving his position as interim COO of the hospital's operator, Cheverly, Md.-based Dimensions Healthcare System, according to spokeswoman Erika Murray.

2. Amid Mr. Spearman's departure, the health system's new executive vice president and COO, Sherry Perkins, will take over health system operations, while leading Laurel Regional's transition into an ambulatory care center, according to the report.

3. In a prepared statement, Mr. Spearman said his departure is part of the preparation for the new ambulatory care center.

4. According to Laurel Regional, Mr. Spearman helped in the facility's EMR transition, and during his tenure, the hospital earned full accreditation from The Joint Commission.
