Las Palmas Medical Center CEO resigns, takes new job at El Paso teaching hospital: 3 things to know

Sierra Providence Health Network in El Paso, Texas, has named Henry "Hank" Hernandez CEO of its new teaching hospital, which is now under construction, according to a report published by El Paso Inc.

The El Paso campus is expected to be complete in 2017.

Mr. Hernandez will also serve as Sierra Providence's market COO. In that role, he will lead the teaching hospital's construction and oversee the direction, strategies and operations of the new facility, according to the health network. Mr. Hernandez, who recently resigned from his job as CEO of Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso, starts June 22.

Here are three things to know about Mr. Hernandez.

1. Mr. Hernandez was named CEO of Columbia Medical Center West, now Las PalmasMedicalCenter, in January 1998, according to the El Paso Times.

2. Mr. Hernandez was named CEO of Columbia Medical Center West after serving as senior vice president of quality services for the West Texas Division.

3. While Mr. Hernandez was at Las Palmas Medical Center, the hospital opened a $40 million emergency room and intensive care unit, and launched a kidney transplant center, according to El Paso Inc.
