Kaiser Permanente CIO Philip Fasano resigns

Philip Fasano, executive vice president and CIO of Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente Hospitals and Health Plan, has resigned.

A Kaiser Permanente spokeswoman has confirmed the resignation, which will end Mr. Fasano's seven-year tenure as CIO of the 38-hospital system.

As CIO, Mr. Fasano leads a 6,000-employee IT department and is responsible for creating and deploying technologies that are used throughout the organization.

Mr. Fasano's last day will be later this fall. An interim CIO will be appointed, though that person has not yet been named.

Update, 12:45pm: Insurance giant AIG has announced Mr. Fasano will be joining the company as executive vice president and CIO, a new role at AIG.
