Johns Hopkins nabs Emory's IT leader as CIO

Richard Mendola has been named vice president and CIO of Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins University both based in Baltimore.

Mr. Mendola, who will step into the role March 15, will succeed Dean Zarriello, according to a Jan. 30 release from Johns Hopkins.

Prior to this, Mr. Mendola oversaw the IT organization of Atlanta-based Emory University and Emory Healthcare.

Under his leadership at Emory, the health system was able to unify IT structure, create the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship, create an enterprise information security system, and more.

The move comes as Emory's Deputy CIO John Ellis assumes the role of interim enterprise chief information officer and senior vice provost for information technology.
