John Hales Named Administrator of Bamberg County Hospital in South Carolina

Bamberg (S.C.) County Hospital's board has voted to hire John Hales as administrator of the hospital, according to a Times and Democrat report.

Mr. Hales joins Bamberg County Hospital from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

During the same meeting, the board also voted to end its contract with Healthcare Management Partners, which the hospital hired earlier this year to help financially manage the cash-strapped hospital.

The Bamberg hospital, Barnwell (S.C.) County Hospital and Allendale County Hospital in Fairfax, S.C., planned to join forces to create Tri-County Regional Health Care Park under the management of HMP. However, Allendale recently pulled out of the plan and HMP decided a two-county system would not be feasible.

Bamberg County Hospital had a net loss of $2.4 million in the nine months ending in May and filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy in June.
