Jim Krauss, corporate vice president of Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare and president of Harrisonburg, Va.-based Sentara RMH Medical Center, is retiring.
Here are six things to know about Mr. Krauss and his retirement.
1. Mr. Krauss will retire on June 24, 2016.
2. He has spent 15 of his 30 years in healthcare administration at SRMH. He was recruited in April 2000 to what was then Rockingham Memorial Hospital to serve as senior vice president and COO. He was then promoted to president and CEO in 2007.
3. The hospital accomplished a number of things under his leadership. According to a news release, those accomplishments include adding open heart surgery as its first tertiary service, building a replacement facility, forming the SRMH Medical Group in 2010 and completing a merger with Sentara Healthcare.
4. Mr. Krauss earned a bachelor's degree from State College-based Pennsylvania State University and a master's degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
5. He also previously served in the Peace Corps in Paraguay.
6. Once he retires he plans "to spend more time with family and focus on teaching healthcare executives of the future," officials said.
