Jeffrey Meyers nominated as New Hampshire HHS commissioner: 5 things to know

New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan (D) will nominate Jeffrey Meyers as commissioner of the New Hampshire HHS, the state's largest department.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Meyers.

1. He is currently director of intergovernmental affairs for New Hampshire HHS.

2. In his role as director of intergovernmental affairs for New Hampshire HHS, Mr. Meyers works within the department, across the executive branch, and with legislators, federal officials and stakeholder groups "to help develop and implement department programs, strategies and services," according to a news release. He recently helped oversee major initiatives such as the implementation of the bipartisan New Hampshire Health Protection Program, a Medicaid funded healthcare program that expands coverage to low-income New Hampshire residents.

3. Previously, Mr. Meyers was director for government relations for the Granite Healthcare Network and also served as chief legal counsel to former New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch, as legal counsel for the New Hampshire State Senate, and as an assistant attorney general for New Hampshire.

4. He earned an undergraduate degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

5. The nomination of Mr. Meyers is subject to confirmation by New Hampshire's executive council. Gov. Hassan will formally make the nomination at a special meeting of the executive council Jan. 4.
