Scripps Health is concluding its centennial year with a $13.1 million payout to employees.
The San Diego-based health system will provide awards of up to $1,000 each to more than 14,500 employees below the supervisor level, honoring their dedication.
"As we wrap up our yearlong celebration of a remarkable milestone in Scripps' history — the 100th anniversary of our founding in 1924 — we wanted to recognize our hourly employees who show the unwavering compassion and commitment that is the cornerstone of the care we provide to our community," Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder said in a news release shared with Becker's.
Today, the system encompasses five hospital campuses, 30 outpatient centers and clinics, and numerous affiliated physician offices across the region. Scripps was founded as a small seaside hospital in La Jolla, Calif., was established with funding from journalist, media founder and philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps.
The year-end awards are part of a broader $103.1 million investment in Scripps employees this year, which included a decision to get ahead of a minimum wage increase in California by granting its employees the largest pay increase in the organization's history.
