IU Health names 3 executive leaders: 10 things to know

Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health has appointed three executive leaders.

System representatives said the appointments, who will report directly to IU Health's newly named president, Dennis Murphy, are part of an organizational alignment aimed at better serving patients and their families.

Here are 10 things to know about the leaders.

Al Gatmaitan was named executive vice president and COO.

1. Mr. Gatmaitan has been with IU Health for than two decades years and is currently president of the IU Health West Central Region.

2. Prior to his current role, he led several IU Health hospitals —IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, Ind., IU Health Tipton (Ind.) Hospital, IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Ind., and IU Health White Memorial in Monticello, Ind.

3. He will begin his new role Feb. 1.

Ryan Kitchell was named executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

4. Mr. Kitchell is currently CFO of IU Health.

5. He came to IU Health in 2010 and has since put together teams to manage the organization's financial health, according to a news release.

6. In his new role, he will oversee IU Health's system business services — business development, engagement and strategy, finance, human resources, information systems, IU Health Plans and government affairs.

7. He will begin his new role Feb. 1.

Kevin Armstrong was named chief mission and values officer.

8. Mr. Armstrong is currently president of Methodist Health Foundation, a role in which he has been part of uniting the philanthropy mission for many IU Health entities, according to a news release.

9. In his new role, he will continue to focus this alignment of philanthropy and assure the continued integration of IU Health's mission and values throughout the organization.

10. He will begin his new role Jan. 11.
