Inova CEO J. Knox Singleton to retire after 35 years

Falls Church, Va.-based Inova CEO J. Knox Singleton, 69, revealed plans to retire, effective July 1, 2018.

Mr. Singleton served as CEO of the health system for 35 years. During his tenure, he oversaw the health system's transition from a $500 million enterprise with 1,000 employees to a $3.5 billion, five-hospital system and insurance provider with more than 17,000 employees.

"At some point, a CEO needs to take stock of what kind of leader is required to achieve the next chapter of our vision. After 35 years, I want to pass the baton to the kind of innovative, inspirational leader who will take Inova from national to global prominence," Mr. Singleton said. "I want to start my post-Inova life while I am able to devote my full passion after 35 years to my personal priorities … I also want to spend more time with my family, especially my seven kids."

It is unclear if Inova selected or began the search for Mr. Singleton's replacement.
